Every woman and girl deserves to live in a safe environment free from any violence
Are we safe? Can women and girls fetch water without fearing the horrors they may encounter? No one should ever be made to feel unsafe in their own natural environment. We must champion safe communities
Water is a basic human right
Water is a basic human right, yet many people still lack access to it, and when they do, it is often unsafe or unhygienic. This is unacceptable. We must advocate for safe, clean Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene for all.
No one should seek water for more than 30 minutes
It is recommended that people should spend no more than 30 minutes roundtrip fetching water from the nearest access point. When it takes longer than this, the water source can no longer be considered safe. We must advocate for closer, safer water access points.
Perpetrators should be tried and punished accordingly
Many crimes committed against women and girls while accessing water go unpunished due to fear, lack of physical evidence, or weak legal structures. We must demand justice and accountability for water related sexual violence. Let’s champion for a just world.
Why do we have good policies that lie dormant and not put to good use?
Strong water and protection policies already exist. If properly implemented, they can create safer communities and improve access to clean water. We must champion policies that work and advocate for those that protect and safeguard women and girls.
We all reserve a right to an environment that nurtures us rather than break us
Women and girls deserve a future free from violence. They deserve the right to dream and equal opportunities to pursue those dreams. We stand for hope, even for those already affected by violence. We can still grow our flowers back.
